This is an experience with Peruvian folk art! You will meet an artisan and his family, originally from Sarhua, Ayacucho, who have lived in Lima since the 1990s. We will start by transporting you to the district of Chorrillos in the south of Lima, to enter the home workshop of the Ramos family, who have dedicated much of their lives to the recovery and dissemination of a unique tradition from the Andean region. During the journey, your guide will share basic information about the migration of this family, the impact of urban life on their culture, and finally, their assimilation into the capital city. The Ramos family home workshop is located on one of the hills in the district of Chorrillos, one of the peripheral areas of the great metropolis of Lima. We will enter a house adapted to serve as an exhibition-sale workshop for the products made collectively by the family. We will meet Mr. Julián Ramos, awarded as a master craftsman by the Ministry of Culture in 2024, as well as his wife and daughter, true guardians of this cultural expression that manifests the reciprocal practices of the Inca system. To make this experience even more immersive, you will create a portable version of “Tabla de Sarhua” with one of the masters, using the same techniques and pigments used by the artisans. Finally, you will take home this piece of wood that will be a special souvenir of a very artistic and cultural experience in Lima.
This experience is highly stimulating for artists, designers, linguists, social scientists, and everyone who admires Andean art and Cultural Diversity
