Wilma Maynas (Pekon Rune)

Pekon Rune means woman talented in language, Shipibo-Konibo, its name in Spanish is Wilma Maynas, was born in the Indigenous Community of Panaillo, Lower Ucayali, the September 7, 1964. Since she was a child she learned to paint with natural pigments obtained from the bark of mahogany, almond, and guava. Wilma is also a skilled ceramist, embroidery and muralist, known as “Personality Worthy of the Culture” in 2020, prize awarded by the Ministry of Culture of Peru.

Wilma is an active disseminator of their ancestral culture, Shipibo-Konibo, she has participated in various research projects and cultural promotion. In September of 2022 was invited by the Art Gallery the Power Plant in Toronto, Canada, to paint a large mural style Shipibo-Konibo has also exhibited his work at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Quito, Ecuador, spreading the diversity of ethnic and cultural heritage of Peru.

Currently Wilma resides in the Community of Indigenous Shipibo-Konibo of Cantagallo, located in the Rímac district of Lima, Peru, a place where we receive and share his knowledge about the Peruvian Amazon and the ancestral art Shipibo-Konibo.
